ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Residents are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand at the Bonito Lake Cleanup Event happening today, Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The New Mexico Department of Wildlife is hosting the event as part of its Breaking Bad Habits initiative, aimed at preserving New Mexico’s natural treasures by tackling litter and promoting responsible outdoor recreation.
Bonito Lake remains a beloved destination for local families, anglers, boaters, and nature lovers. Organizers say community participation is key to ensuring the lake stays clean, safe, and enjoyable for generations to come.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome — whether you’re coming as an individual, with your family, or as part of a group. The organizers will provide gloves, trash bags, and grabbers. Participants are asked to bring sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and a positive attitude.
No experience is necessary — just a willingness to make a difference.
