Tularosa, NM – Windswept Ranch, the new exotic animal destination along U.S. Highway 54, has delayed its planned Memorial Day weekend grand opening. Organizers say more time is needed to secure key supplies and complete final preparations before welcoming visitors.
The ranch, located at 7580 Hwy 54 in Tularosa, relocated from its previous site in Rosamond, California. It features a growing collection of exotic and farm animals, including camels, reindeer, zebra, water buffalo (such as the recently arrived Winchester), bison, yak, emu, guanaco, sheep, goats, and more. Promoted as a hands-on family experience, it plans to offer guided tours, animal interactions, feeding opportunities, and special events.
In a recent community update, ranch officials clarified that the postponement is not a cancellation but a deliberate pause. “As we continue preparing the ranch, a few important supplies [and] comfort items for the animals are still needed,” the statement noted. The extra time will also support additional enhancements to ensure a safe, high-quality experience for guests.
The ranch has actively engaged the local community through volunteer workdays, offering admission tickets in exchange for help with preparations. Recent events, such as participation in the Tularosa Rose Festival, have highlighted strong local support and excitement for the new attraction.
No revised opening date has been announced yet. Updates on the schedule, hours, ticket information, and future events will be shared via the ranch’s Facebook page and other official channels.
Windswept Ranch aims to become a unique educational and recreational destination in the Tularosa Basin, giving families the chance to get up close with a variety of animals in a scenic desert setting. Organizers expressed deep appreciation for the community’s patience and ongoing enthusiasm as they work toward a successful launch.
