Alamogordo, NM – Two Otero County schools made strong runs in the 2026 NMAA Softball State Championships, with Tularosa competing in Class 3A and Alamogordo advancing deep into the Class 5A bracket.
Tularosa Lady Cats (3A)
The No. 8-seeded Tularosa Lady Cats opened the state tournament with a bang, defeating No. 5 Sandia Prep 16-7 on May 13 at Los Altos Fields in Albuquerque. The offensive explosion propelled them into the next round.
On Thursday, May 14, Tularosa faced No. 3 St. Michael’s at 9:30 a.m., falling 13-8. Despite the loss, the Lady Cats showed tremendous fight and heart throughout the postseason.

Alamogordo Lady Tigers (5A)
The No. 2-seeded Alamogordo Lady Tigers delivered a dominant run at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, reaching the Final Four (Final 3) of the 5A bracket.
• Thursday, May 14: Defeated No. 3 Organ Mountain 14-8
• Friday, May 15: Shut out No. 6 Cleveland 6-0
• Friday, May 15: Defeated No. 9 Centennial 9-6
Alamogordo advanced to face No. 10 Las Cruces in the semifinals on Friday afternoon, falling 12-7. The loss ended their championship hopes, but the Lady Tigers earned a well-deserved spot among the state’s final three teams.
Congratulations to the Alamogordo Lady Tigers on an outstanding season and for making it to the Final 3! Your talent, resilience, and teamwork made the community proud.
Both programs demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the 2026 campaign. The future looks bright for softball in the Alamogordo and Tularosa areas.

my question regarding this article: after originally filing as a democrat, then withdrawing from that candidacy, to file a second time as an independent; did this experienced politician not read and understand the rules? this gives every appearance of a desperate attempt to resurrect a campaign that is floundering

i have no knowledge of the drafting of those rules, so i cannot answer your question - i am simply puzzled that someone with his political background would not recognize the statutory requirements from the beginning.
