Alamogordo, NM – At approximately 10:04 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Alamogordo Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1100 block of Wright Avenue.

Dispatchers received multiple calls reporting heavy black smoke visible from the area. Upon arrival, firefighters found a single-wide structure fully engulfed in flames, with fire threatening nearby exposures.

First-arriving crews quickly established a water supply and launched an aggressive interior and exterior attack. Units on scene included Chief 1, Chief 2, FD3, LT20, Engine 5, Engine 6, and Truck 2. Due to the fire’s intensity, additional resources were requested, including mutual aid from Otero County Fire District 1 for suppression and overhaul operations. Rehabilitation units were also called in to monitor firefighter safety during the demanding conditions.

Boles Acres was temporarily closed off to ensure public safety while firefighters worked to contain the blaze. Fire crews utilized large water streams and coordinated roof operations to protect adjacent properties. The fire was brought under control within minutes of the first engine’s arrival.

No civilian injuries were reported. While nearby structures were exposed to intense heat, rapid action by crews prevented significant fire extension into occupied homes. The involved structure is believed to have been abandoned at the time of the incident.

The Alamogordo Fire Department Fire Investigations Unit is working to determine the cause of the fire.

The Alamogordo Fire Department extends its sincere thanks to all assisting agencies and personnel for their swift and professional response, which helped protect our community.

Public Safety Reminder:

The Alamogordo Fire Department urges residents to ensure smoke detectors are working, keep flammable materials away from structures, and report any suspicious activity around vacant properties immediately. Early detection and reporting save lives and property.
