Alamogordo, NM – February 6, 2026 – Two juveniles were arrested today by the Alamogordo Police Department (APD) following the reported theft of a firearm from a residence in the 600 block of Boyce Avenue, according to an official news release from the department.

Officers responded to the location on Friday, February 6, 2026, after a reporting party notified authorities of the larceny. During the investigation, detectives learned that the suspect(s) included the reporting party’s own child—a 13-year-old female—and her 14-year-old boyfriend. Authorities allege the pair took the firearm with the intent to harm another individual.

APD officers and detectives acted swiftly to locate the juveniles, who reportedly provided admissions related to the incident during questioning.

As a result:

• The 13-year-old female was arrested and charged with:

• Larceny of a Firearm

• Conspiracy to Commit Larceny of a Firearm

• Unlawful Possession of a Handgun

• The 14-year-old male was arrested and charged with:

• Conspiracy to Commit Larceny of a Firearm

• Unlawful Possession of a Handgun

• Possession of a Stolen Firearm

• Use of a Telephone to Terrify, Intimidate, Threaten, Harass, Annoy, or Offend

Both juveniles have been taken into custody and will be transported to a juvenile detention facility. Due to their ages, their names are not being released publicly, in line with New Mexico juvenile justice protocols.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about juvenile access to firearms in New Mexico. Statewide data from 2025 indicated nearly 300 juveniles were arrested for firearm-related misconduct, prompting discussions on prevention, school safety, and legislative reforms to address youth gun violence.

The Alamogordo Police Department continues to investigate the matter. No further details on potential victims, the specific firearm, or any related threats have been released at this time. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact APD.
