Alamogordo, NM – February 1, 2026 – The Alamogordo Tiger Wrestling team wrapped up key district competition with a solid showing against the Mayfield Trojans on January 28 at Mayfield High School. The boys’ squad powered to a decisive 39-18 victory, while the girls’ team dropped a 18-36 decision in a matchup heavily influenced by forfeits.
The Tigers’ boys’ team showcased pinning dominance and technical superiority, securing multiple quick falls to build an early and commanding lead. Standout performances included:
• 106 lbs: Terrence Armijo pinned Aaron Sanchez in :54 seconds.
• 113 lbs: Fynn Krafka pinned Arturo Adame in :31 seconds.
• 120 lbs: AJ Benitez pinned Zane Carson in 1:39.
• 126 lbs: Cody Phillips pinned Liam Espana in 3:07.
• 132 lbs: Damien Montoya earned a technical fall over Lane Neeley, 17-0 in 3:00.
• 157 lbs: Demetre Hinds won by major decision over Liam Dougherty, 18-9.
Forfeits added to the tally, with Alamogordo gaining points at 165 lbs (Jahdarion Williams) and Mayfield receiving awards at 138 lbs (Preston Haggard), 175 lbs (Isaiah Duran), and 285 lbs (Matthew Zuniga-Diaz).
The girls’ dual saw limited action on the mat, with both teams receiving points primarily through forfeits. Alamogordo earned points at 140 lbs (Ava Armijo), 170 lbs (Jayden Mira), and 190 lbs (Isabella Price-Aguila), while Mayfield benefited from forfeits at 100 lbs (Charlotte Dennis), 105 lbs (Adylenne Marquez), 110 lbs (Lilyana Ramirez), 120 lbs (Grayce Forsyth), 125 lbs (Sara Flores), and 155 lbs (Kora Weissee).
With district duals now complete, the Tigers shift focus to the postseason. The girls’ regional tournament is set for February 6-7 in Roswell, followed by the boys’ regionals on February 13-14 in Albuquerque. These qualifiers will determine spots at the state championships, and the boys’ strong pinning performance against Mayfield signals momentum heading into the critical events.
