ALAMOGORDO, New Mexico – The Alamogordo High School wrestling program faced a challenging stretch this week, dropping dual meets to both Gadsden High School and Las Cruces High School in competitive bouts that highlighted individual highlights amid team defeats.

Tigers vs. Gadsden: Boys 48-22, Girls 24-12
In the boys’ dual against Gadsden, Alamogordo secured several impressive victories through technical superiority and pins, but heavy forfeits proved costly.
Key Alamogordo wins included:
• 113 lbs: Fynn Krafka earned a dominant technical fall over Luis Robles (16-1 in 4:12)
• 120 lbs: AJ Benitez dominated with a technical fall over Dylan Rodriguez (16-0 in 2:10)
• 132 lbs: Damien Montoya pinned Julian Valenzuela in 3:34
• 190 lbs: Gaven Kizer secured a fall over Luis Loya at 3:30
Terrence Armijo added a forfeit win at 106 lbs for the Tigers.
Gadsden capitalized on eight forfeit victories across various weight classes, including Andrew Gerber (126), Izaac Carreon (138), Alexis Angon (150), Rocky Rodriguez (157), Hector Gonzalez (165), Uriah Hall (175), and Manuel Garcia (215), contributing heavily to their 48-22 victory.
The girls’ match followed a similar pattern, with Gadsden winning 24-12 largely due to forfeits. Alamogordo’s Ava Armijo (140) and Jayden Mira (170) received forfeit wins, but Gadsden claimed six forfeit points.
Tigers vs. Las Cruces: Boys 63-15, Girls 78-6
Against Las Cruces, the Tigers showed fight in select matchups but again struggled with depth.
Standout performances for Alamogordo included:
• 106 lbs: Terrence Armijo edged Ryan Wedekind in a close 15-13 decision
• 120 lbs: AJ Benitez delivered a pin over Zeke Nevarez in 4:39
• 170 lbs (Girls): Jayden Mira pinned Serenity Lee in 2:18
Damien Montoya fell in a tight 12-11 decision to Dominic Lopez at 132 lbs, and Gaven Kizer was pinned quickly at 190 lbs by Daniel Amaro (:47). Fynn Krafka received a forfeit loss at 113 lbs.
Las Cruces dominated with nine forfeit wins in boys’ action, powering their 63-15 victory.
The girls’ side saw an even steeper challenge, with Las Cruces winning 78-6. Ava Armijo fell by pin to Paige Atma at 140 lbs (1:27), while Mira’s pin provided the Tigers’ lone victory. Las Cruces claimed 11 forfeit points.
Despite the setbacks, the Tigers continue to build momentum with strong individual showings from wrestlers like AJ Benitez, Terrence Armijo, and Jayden Mira.
Alamogordo next competes at the Sierra Blanca Invite in Ruidoso on Saturday, offering the team a chance to regroup and showcase their skills in a tournament setting.
