Alamogordo Tigers, Area Teams Earn Tournament Wins

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — It was a busy Thursday night of tournament basketball across southern New Mexico, with Alamogordo, Cloudcroft, Mescalero Apache, and Tularosa all in action. The Tigers swept their matchups, while several area teams battled through tough contests on the road.

Alamogordo Lady Tigers vs. Artesia

The Lady Tigers held control throughout, defeating Artesia 40–33.

• Alamogordo led 13–8 after the first quarter, 25–18 at halftime, and 36–27 after three quarters before sealing the win.

• Mariah Allen scored 16 points, Madi Flores added 11, and Addyson Gonzalez chipped in 5.

The victory evens Alamogordo’s record at 1–1. They advance to face the winner of Bel-Air and Deming Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Alamogordo Tigers Boys vs. Los Lunas

The Tigers boys’ squad followed with a 62–50 win over Los Lunas.

• Alamogordo led 28–27 at halftime, 42–37 after three quarters, and pulled away late.

• Julian Favela paced the Tigers with 13 points, Jaedyn Hernandez had 12, while Ethan Grinder and Aaron Herrera each scored 11.

The win improves Alamogordo to 2–0. They will meet the winner of Kirtland Central and Artesia Friday.

Cloudcroft Bears at Dora Tournament

It was a tough outing for Cloudcroft, as both teams fell to Roy/Mosquero.

• Girls Final: Roy/Mosquero 54, Cloudcroft 21. Maitlyn Barnett led the Lady Bears with 13 points, while Tristyn Housler added 6. Cloudcroft drops to 0–2 and will face Dora or Amherst (TX) Friday at 11:30 a.m.

• Boys Final: Roy/Mosquero 50, Cloudcroft 14. The Bears fall to 0–3 and will play Amherst or Dora Friday at 1 p.m.

Mescalero Apache at Melrose/Dora Tournaments

The Lady Chiefs and Chiefs both earned victories.

• Girls Final (Melrose Tournament): Mescalero Apache 48, Floyd 10. Laurdis Sundayman scored 15 points, Elizabeth Rocha had 10, Taylynn Ahidley added 7, and Kaylyn Chino finished with 6. The Lady Chiefs are now 1–1 and will play Melrose or Hagerman Friday at 5:30 p.m.

• Boys Final (Dora Tournament): Mescalero Apache 36, Floyd 34. Anthony Yuzos led with 11 points, Shywin Chaffins scored 7, and Avin Yellowcloud added 6. The Chiefs improve to 2–0 and will face Melrose or Hagerman Friday at 7 p.m.

Tularosa Lady Cats at Hatch Tournament

The Lady Cats edged Lordsburg in a thriller, 51–50.

• Veronica Blazer turned in a standout performance with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 steals.

• Jaleria Caje added 13 points, while Acacia Mendez and Kiah Zysk each scored 5.

Tularosa improves to 2–0 and will play Cliff Friday at 6:15 p.m.

The Alamogordo’s squads remain unbeaten in tournament play, Mescalero Apache continues to impress, and Tularosa pulled off a nail-biter. Cloudcroft will look to rebound Friday as area teams continue their early-season tournament runs.
