Alamogordo Tigers Push Forward in 6A Football Race as State Rankings Tighten
As the 2025 New Mexico high school football season barrels into its second half, the Alamogordo Tigers find themselves in the thick of a competitive District 3-6A battle. With a current record of 4–3 overall and 1–2 in district play, the Tigers are fighting to stay relevant in a field dominated by some of the state’s top-ranked programs.
The season began with promise. Alamogordo opened with three straight wins, including a gritty road victory over Deming and a strong showing against Roswell. The team has led the charge offensively, while the defense has shown flashes of resilience despite recent setbacks.
Losses to Hobbs and Centennial—both ranked in the top five statewide—have tested the Tigers’ depth and discipline. Hobbs, currently No. 4 in the state, overwhelmed Alamogordo with a high-powered offense in a 47–26 shootout. Centennial, sitting at No. 3, showcased its playoff pedigree in a 42–32 win that exposed gaps in Alamogordo’s secondary.
Despite those defeats, Alamogordo remains a dangerous team with plenty to play for. Their next matchup, a home game against Carlsbad on October 10, is a must-win to stay in the playoff conversation. The Tigers will also face Las Cruces on October 16 and Clovis on October 31—two more district rivals with postseason implications.
Across the state, Cleveland High School continues to dominate the Class 6A rankings, holding the No. 1 spot with an undefeated record and a reputation for explosive offense and disciplined execution. La Cueva, Centennial, and Hobbs round out the top four, each with deep rosters and playoff-tested leadership.
While Alamogordo hasn’t cracked the top 10 in the latest MaxPreps rankings, the team’s early-season success and competitive spirit have kept them in the mix. High School Sports Writer Chris Edwards says, “They’ve got the talent and the heart,” now it’s about execution and believing in each other.”
The Tigers’ remaining schedule offers both challenges and opportunities. With three district games left, Alamogordo has a chance to climb the standings and make a late-season push. The community’s support remains strong, and the energy at Tiger Stadium is electric as fans rally behind their team during home games.
In a district stacked with ranked opponents and playoff contenders, Alamogordo’s grit and determination will be tested. But if the Tigers can string together wins and tighten up defensively, they may yet roar into November with a postseason berth in sight.
