Alamogordo Teams Struggle in District Play as Las Cruces Schools Climb State Rankings

ALAMOGORDO, NM — It was a tough two-day stretch for Alamogordo High School athletics, with all three varsity teams falling in district matchups against Gadsden and Centennial. Meanwhile, Las Cruces-area schools continue to dominate statewide rankings in both volleyball and soccer, according to MaxPreps.

Girls Soccer: Gadsden Overpowers Lady Tigers

The Alamogordo Lady Tigers were shut out 8-0 by Gadsden in a decisive district loss. The defeat drops the Lady Tigers to 5-9-1 overall and 0-5 in district play. They’ll look to rebound Thursday on the road against Centennial, currently ranked #5 in New Mexico with an 8-1 record A.

Volleyball: Centennial Sweeps Alamogordo

Centennial’s volleyball squad, ranked #5 statewide A, defeated Alamogordo in straight sets (25-17, 25-23, 25-20). The Lady Tigers now sit at 6-8 overall and 0-1 in district, with their next match scheduled for Saturday at Organ Mountain, another Las Cruces powerhouse.

Las Cruces High School leads the state volleyball rankings at #1, boasting a perfect 10-0 record, followed by La Cueva and Cleveland A.

Boys Soccer: Gadsden Shuts Out Tigers

Alamogordo’s boys soccer team fell 5-0 to Gadsden, despite a standout performance from goalkeeper Nico Carrillo, who recorded 19 saves. The Tigers drop to 3-12 overall and 0-5 in district play, and will host Centennial on Thursday (JV at 5 PM, Varsity at 7 PM).

In statewide rankings, Gadsden is currently #2 in boys soccer with a 4-1 record, while Capital High School leads the state at #1 B. Alamogordo ranks #11, ahead of Roswell and Organ Mountain B.

Las Cruces Schools Continue to Shine

Las Cruces-area programs remain dominant across sports:
