The Cloudcroft Lady Bears delivered a strong showing at the Capitan Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, securing second place after a pair of competitive matches.
Cloudcroft opened the day with a commanding sweep over Fort Sumner/House, winning in straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-18). The Lady Bears showcased consistent serving and net play to control the tempo throughout the match.
In the championship round, Cloudcroft faced a tough Elida squad and fell in three sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-19). Despite the loss, the Lady Bears battled hard and kept the score close in each set.
With the tournament behind them, Cloudcroft improves to 7-6 on the season. The Lady Bears will return to home court action on October 7th when they host Hot Springs.
Mescalero Apache Splits Matches at Capitan Tournament
The Mescalero Apache Lady Chiefs went 1-1 in tournament play on Saturday, picking up a win against Capitan JV before falling to Hagerman.
Mescalero Apache started strong, defeating Capitan JV in straight sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-15), marking their first win of the season. However, they struggled in their second match, dropping three sets to Hagerman (25-10, 25-16, 25-12).
The Lady Chiefs now stand at 1-13 and will look to build momentum when they host Eunice on Tuesday.
Capitan Tops Mescalero Apache in Four Sets
In a separate match at the Capitan Tournament, the Capitan varsity squad defeated Mescalero Apache in four sets. The loss drops the Lady Chiefs to 0-12. They’ll face Capitan JV again on Saturday morning.
Ruidoso Sweeps Alamogordo in Straight Sets
The Ruidoso Lady Warriors earned a decisive victory over Alamogordo, winning in straight sets. The Lady Tigers fall to 5-6 and will travel to Carlsbad for their next matchup on Tuesday.
Quemado Overcomes Tularosa in Four-Set Battle
Quemado outlasted Tularosa in a competitive four-set match (25-12, 22-25, 25-21, 25-16). The Lady Cats drop to 9-3 and will look to bounce back when they visit Hot Springs on Tuesday.
