Roswell, NM — September 17, 2025. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is reviewing an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday morning in Roswell following reports of a domestic disturbance.
According to investigators, Roswell Police officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 8:09 a.m. on September 16. The caller reported a male suspect acting aggressively toward a female near the Allsup’s convenience store at 2501 North Main Street. The suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the woman before concealing it in his shorts.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspect hiding behind a dumpster. When approached, the suspect fled on foot. During the pursuit, he reportedly drew a handgun and pointed it at the pursuing officer, who then fired at least one round, striking the suspect.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Andrew Nathaniel Lopez-Cobos, was taken into custody and airlifted to a hospital in Texas for treatment. State Police officials say Lopez-Cobos has a lengthy criminal history and has previously threatened law enforcement.
He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting and evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and negligent use of a firearm.
The name of the officer involved has not been released. The Roswell Police Department is responsible for any administrative actions related to the officer’s conduct.
New Mexico State Police emphasized that their role is limited to fact-finding. All evidence and reports will be forwarded to the appropriate district attorney, who will determine whether the officer’s actions were legally justified.

Of course, 8 million dollars wasn’t enough for this place to get established, so somehow spending another $650,000 is going to fix things? Alamogordo has had 3 bowling alleys in the last 40 years, and none of them could make it.
