Ths U.S. Border Patrol took to social media to post that agents had intercepted an American man traveling on I-25 after the driver was reportedly acting nervous at the Border Patrol checkpoint.
A U.S. citizen arrived at the USBP checkpoint on Interstate 25 near Las Cruces, NM, exhibiting nervous behavior and agents took notice. This behavior made sense when a USBP K-9 quickly alerted to the vehicle. An inspection of the gas tank revealed this vehicle was carrying more than gasoline. Agents found 48 bundles of meth weighing over 52 pounds. HSI seized the drugs and took custody of the driver- charging him with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
USBP checkpoints are critical in stopping the flow of drugs across American highways. So far this year, USBP checkpoints have seized 13,945 pounds of narcotics.
Then following this seizure on June 30th another seizure occured...
On Wednesday evening June 30, U.S. Border Patrol agents at a checkpoint north of Las Cruces, seized more narcotics worth approximately $2,200.
Border Patrol Agents stopped a vehicle in order to conduct a routine immigration inspection. The driver claimed to be a U.S. citizen, but agents noticed inconsistencies during a brief conversation at primary inspection. After the driver consented to a vehicle search, a U.S. Border Patrol canine performed a non-intrusive sniff and alerted, indicating the possible presence of narcotics.
Border Patrol agents then carried out a thorough search of the vehicle and found a plastic bag containing a white crystal substance under the driver’s seat. The bag contained approximately 5 ounces of methamphetamine worth almost $2,200. The driver and meth were turned over to DEA agents, and the vehicle will be returned to its registered owner.
“Our immigration checkpoints in Texas and New Mexico continue to be a focal point for seizures of narcotics and interdictions of human smuggling attempts,” said Gloria Chavez, Interim Chief for the Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector. “I’m extremely proud of the great work being done on a daily basis by our skilled Border Patrol agents assigned to our immigration checkpoints.”
