Coach Tommy Standefer: A Legacy of Success Named to Coaches Hall of Fame

Coach Tommy Standefer has been selected to the New Mexico Coaches Hall of Fame. He has coached for over 40 years with 32 of those years at Alamogordo High School.

Alamogordo has a great history of a competitive golf program. Alamogordo's golf first successes date back to the 1960's under coach Billy Aldridge. The New Mexico Activities association offered State Tournaments in Golf for boys beginning in 1933. The first Boy in the state of New Mexico to win a State Golf Title was Ralph Petty of Carrizozo in 1933.

Alamogordo High School Boys Golf program began to gain some traction in the 50's, but was was not recognized as truly competitive until the 1960s and 1970s under the leadership of Billy Aldridge. He was credited with creating a professional level program that was a model for high schools and community colleges around the country. Standefer's leadership follows a strong tradition of Tiger Golf excellence. Jump foward in Tiger history and another legend in excellence is showcased that being Coach Tommy Standefer.

The Alamogordo Boys Golf program has won 7 state titles and 4 individuals titles in the boys division since inception and placed 3rd in state this year, 2025. The Tiger girls placed 5th this year.

Newly announced New Mexico Coaches Hall of Fame Coach Tommy Standefer leads a team with a history of success.

Under Standefers reign he won 3 girls golf state titles in a row between 2001 and 2003 as well as boys titles. Coach Standefer has coached for Alamogordo for 32 years with 40 years of coaching and is still coaching at Alamogordo High School.

    Under his tenure in leadership the Alamogordo Girls have attended a state tournament 29 times in the last 32 years. Fifteen times, the girls have finished with a trophy, either first, second or third, at state, a record to be very proud of.
