On December 30th, 2024, New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau agents were called to 1302 East Main Street, Quay County Family Health Center in Tucumcari, to investigate a shooting.
Agents learned that around 4:10 p.m., a call came into 911 where a female stated her husband was shot. Investigators learned that Anthony Kent (56) was arguing with another male in the parking lot of the health center when the argument escalated. At some point during the argument, Kent brandished a firearm and discharged multiple rounds. The male’s wife exited the health center after hearing the shots and brandished a firearm, pointing it toward Kent in an attempt to get him to stop firing his weapon, but did not shoot.
Kent then retrieved an AR-15-style rifle and began firing the second weapon toward the male and his wife. The male was struck by gunfire; however, his wife was uninjured.
Kent fled from the area in a vehicle and was apprehended shortly after the incident by NMSP officers. The victim was transported to a local area hospital and was later flown to a hospital in Texas for further medical treatment. The victim is in stable condition, and the injuries are non-life-threatening. No other individuals were injured.
Kent was arrested and booked into the Quay County Detention Center. He is charged with the following:
· Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree
· Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
· Shooting at or from a Motor Vehicle
