The Oakmont fire continues to display smoldering in the interior, but as of 1:15 p.m. on5-5-24, all lines have held throughout yesterday evening and this morning. Containment remains at 30%. The Sacramento Hotshots will be released this evening, after the end of their shift. Forestry Division’s Rio Grande crew will remain through the evening and into next week to finish fire suppression and patrol efforts. This will be the last notification on this fire unless there are significant changes.
The Oakmont Fire was discovered at 12:28 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024; it is located in Timberon, NM. The fire is burning in a mixture of pinon, juniper and pine fuels within a populated neighborhood. The cause of the fire is under investigation and still undetermined.
The resources utilized include 60 personnel at present responding, including Forestry Division, Rio Grande Type 2IA engines; the US Forest Service; Timberon FD; and Sacramento IHC Hotshot Crews.
On 5-5 upon reporting from the Forestry Service the temperature is 77 degrees with humidity at 22% and winds from the south at 12 mph; gusts up to 25 mph. Tonight, mostly clear, with a low around 42. Southwest wind 15-24 mph; gusts up to 32 mph. Monday, sunny, with a high near 68. Winds from the west at 22-32 mph; gusts up to 39 mph. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 12pm-9pm May 5 and May 6 for the area.
