Otero Arts Sunday Matinee FANTASTIC PLANET, this Sunday 24, 2:00 PM at OTERO ARTSPACE, 12th and Indiana, Alamogordo.Otero Arts proudly presents the classic, thought-provoking, animated science fiction art film FANTASTIC PLANET from writer/director René Laloux and writer/animator Roland Topor. Fantastic Planet was awarded the Grand Prix special jury prize at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, and in 2016, it was ranked the 36th greatest animated movie ever by Rolling Stone. Unlike many animated features, this fascinating film was not created to appeal primarily to a very young audience, but is rated PG. In French, with English subtitles.More at https://www.janusfilms.com/films/1642fantastic planet at Otero Arts.jpg    From Janus Films: "Nothing else has ever looked or felt like director René Laloux’s animated marvel Fantastic Planet, a politically minded and visually inventive work of science fiction. The film is set on a distant planet called Ygam, where enslaved humans (Oms) are the playthings of giant blue native inhabitants (Draags). After Terr, kept as a pet since infancy, escapes from his gigantic child captor, he is swept up by a band of radical fellow Oms who are resisting the Draags’ oppression and violence. With its eerie, coolly surreal cutout animation by Roland Topor; brilliant psychedelic jazz score by Alain Goraguer; and wondrous creatures and landscapes, this Cannes-awarded 1973 counterculture classic is a perennially compelling statement against conformity and violence.   This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from New Mexico Arts, a Division of the NM Department of Cultural Affairs, and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
