In Memory of Beth Broughton

The spirit of our beloved Connie Beth Broughton returned home to her Heavenly Father on August 1, 2026, at the age of 66. She passed away peacefully at her home in Alamogordo, in the presence of her husband, daughter and son.

Connie was born on April 14, 1960, in Saint George, Utah. She was the sixth and last child of Charles Victor Anderson and Beth (Andrus) Anderson. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 40 years, Collin Broughton, daughter Darla Broughton, son Reece Broughton, brother Dennis (Peggy), brother Craig (Laura), sister Karla Clark (Richard), and brother Brent (Brooke). She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Steven.

Connie’s first love was music, and she looked for ways to be involved with music throughout her life. She learned to play the piano in her youth then added the flute and piccolo in junior high and high school. She was accomplished enough at the piano in her mid-teens to play hymns for church services. Later in life she learned to play instruments such as the harp, accordion, steel drums and ukulele. She shared her musical talents throughout her life in various ways: as the pianist for Community of Christ Church, as the organist for St. John’s Episcopal Church, and playing preludes and concerts at Grace Methodist Church and a Christmas concert at Bethel Baptist Church. She also accompanied her children’s orchestra class performances on the snare drum and other percussion instruments. She taught both her children how to read music and play the piano, and after they were grown and moved away from home, she started teaching piano lessons as another way to extend her love of music to others.

For family summer trips while Connie was growing up, they traveled in a van which her father had customized with a double bunk bed in place of the rear bench seat. Family trips included the Arches, Dinosaur National Monument, Yellowstone, Hole in the Rock and many others.

Connie was always at the top of her academic class. She had to work hard at times to maintain her A’s, but she really wanted to excel and succeed in her studies. She was always on the honor roll at school, and was one of the top students of her graduating high school class. Connie graduated from Dixie High School in Saint George UT. She received her degree of associate in science from Dixie College (now Southern Utah University). She also attended Utah State University.

After graduating from high school, Connie worked at Bryce Canyon National Park for the summer. It became one of her favorite places on earth and was one of the places she and Collin visited on their honeymoon.

During 1981-1982 Connie served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the England London East Mission.

Connie was introduced to Collin by a mutual friend, sometime during the summer of 1985. They started dating in the spring of 1986 and got engaged in early August of that year. They were married in the Saint George Utah temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 10, 1986.

Connie was a devoted mother to her two children and was intimately involved as a homeschool mom from the start of their education through high school. It brought her great satisfaction to watch her children learn and grow in knowledge, and she very much enjoyed learning along with them. She participated in local homeschool groups with her children and made many friends among homeschooling families. She and her family traveled to and camped at many of the national and state parks in New Mexico as part of the history and geography curriculum for her children.

She so much enjoyed being out in nature and was an avid hiker. She kept a record of the over 150 trails that she had hiked within the Sacramento Mountains. She and Collin began hiking together even before they were married. A most memorable hike was a 6-hour climb to the top of Mt. Nebo in Utah, where Collin proposed marriage to Connie.

From the time Connie was very young, each year the Anderson family would get together to celebrate Grandma Anderson’s birthday. That birthday celebration eventually turned into a regular family reunion where Connie enjoyed playing with her cousins and visiting with members of the Anderson family.
After she and Collin retired, they bought a motorhome and joined the Family RV Association. They enjoyed participating in the conventions and rallies organized by FRVA and made many new friends.

A life celebration will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, between 2 and 4 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1800 23rd St, Alamogordo NM. Family and friends are warmly invited for a time of fellowship and light refreshments as they share memories and celebrate Connie’s remarkable life.
