On Friday, July 18, a New Mexico State Police Officer arrested 38-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez in Socorro County.
At approximately 8:15 p.m., the officer attempted to stop a black Ford Ranger driven by Rodriguez, who was suspected of being involved in a road rage incident. The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop, and the officer chose not to pursue.
Shortly afterward, the same vehicle was seen again near mile marker 134 traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer re-engaged his emergency equipment and attempted a high-risk traffic stop. The vehicle briefly stopped, but Rodriguez ignored verbal commands and fled the scene a second time, and a pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, Rodriguez drove erratically, at times reaching speeds over 105 MPH. The officer performed a Pursuit Intervention Technique (P.I.T.) maneuver, which was executed successfully, bringing the pursuit to an end. The vehicle came to a controlled stop, and Rodriguez was taken into custody without further incident.
Rodriguez was booked into the Socorro County Detention Center.
He faces the following charges:
