During the New Year holiday, the New Mexico State Police participated in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) operation, which was implemented across all roadways in the state. The initiative aims to enhance motorist safety and decrease the number of crashes by maintaining a strong law enforcement presence.

Due to the increased traffic volume during the holiday, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) enhanced patrol presence on roadways across all twelve State Police districts. This initiative took place specifically from Tuesday, December 31st, 2024, to Thursday, January 2nd, 2025.

The operation led to State Police officers issuing over 1,200 traffic citations, including 54 for failure to wear seat belts. Additionally, 25 DWI arrests were made across the state. Officers also investigated 16 crashes. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau conducted 30 commercial vehicle inspections.

New Mexico State Police remains dedicated to creating safer roadways for all motorists in New Mexico. NMSP officers will continue to carry out holiday travel operations throughout the year. NMSP encourages the public to drive safely and adhere to all traffic laws while traveling on New Mexico's roads.
