Alamogordo MainStreet and the businesses of the district are hyped up and progressing through the MainStreet Makeover.

For those unfamiliar with the district it begins on the 800 Block of New York Avenue, 8th and New York and includes all the stores and businesses on the 900, 1000, 1100 and 1200 block ending at 13th and New York, to include the businesses on White Sands concurrent to the blocks listed from Asian Garden Restaurant to La Hacienda Restaurant. Sidestreet stores across from Wells Fargo such as Emerald Market, Our Little Country Store and La Cucina on White Sands are included in the District. So stop in to all the area businesses and support small business.

Much activity is happening to upgrade the district. The shopping center on White Sands that backs the 1200 Block of New York that includes Asian Garden and Our Little Country just got a fresh paint job, added lighting and a makeover.

Work continues on the two gallery spaces at 1207 and 1209 New York with updates on grand openings coming soon.

On the 1100 Block of the district, the Sands Theatre renewal and reimagination project is proceeding. The White Sands Theatre opened on August 3, 1937 with Edward Arnold in “Easy Living”. It had a seating capacity of 625-seats. The new makeover planned was just granted a LEDA grant ftom the city and the new ownership will soon begin a major restoration effort. The funds will go towards revitalizing its art deco style but modernizing its interior to use for events such as esports tournaments, Super Bowl Watch parties, and independent film showings, said White Sands Theater owner Troy Stegner.

On the 900 and 800 Blocks the major renovations are continuing. New sidewalk construction continues, the facade squad is working to upgrade store fronts. A liquor license application has been filed for the old Avis Building as renovations move forward to restore the building into an amazing restaurant, brewpub and entertainment complex.  At Victoria on the 900 block, they are working on the inside of Victoria with a complete makeover and the facade squad is working on the outside. They are planning a September 13th re-grand opening.

The 900 Block is soon to get a new addition with the announcement of the soon to open Oppenheimer GasHaus German American Restaurant.

The proposal from Alex Macias to bring RAD Retrocade to Alamogordo was officially approved for the 800 Block. This project marks a big win for our downtown district and a huge step toward creating more fun, family-friendly spaces in our community.

The mural project in the alley way on facing White Sands Blvd is continuing...

i would make a polite suggestion; please describe the guys working on the store fronts as facade crews.
the term facade squad makes me think of another group of masked federal agents dispatched to do the trump regimes' dirty work.
