On December 13, 2024, New Mexico State Police arrested a man on charges including kidnapping and battery on a household member in Silver City after getting into an argument with his wife.
On December 13, 2024, an NMSP officer was patrolling in Silver City when he observed a white truck parked in the median on State Road 90 and witnessed 2 males walking away from the vehicle. Upon contacting the males, one of them was bloody, had scratches on his body consistent with a physical altercation, and showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol.
The bloodied male was identified as Patricio Aguilar (61). Upon further investigation, it was learned Aguilar and his wife were going through a separation and Aguilar had driven to his wife’s workplace to discuss their separation. As the wife was leaving in her vehicle, Aguilar ran her off the road, causing her to crash her vehicle. Aguilar then grabbed his wife and forced her into his vehicle where he produced a handgun from inside the vehicle. Aguilar and his wife got into an altercation and at least 2 shots were fired from inside his vehicle as he started driving away from the scene. The firearm was then tossed out the window of Mr. Aguilars vehicle.
After Aguilar drove to their residence, the wife exited the vehicle and began running, crying out for help. Aguilar chased her and they both fell to the ground in the median of State Road 90. A passing motorist stopped and intervened between Aguilar and his wife. A short time later is when the NMSP officer stopped to investigate. The wife did have signs of being in a struggle but had no other injuries.
Aguilar was arrested and booked into the Grant County Detention Center on the charges of:
• Kidnapping
• Aggravated assault against a household member
• Aggravated battery on a household member x2
• DWI
