Censorship 101: Tularosa School Superintendent Bans CNN-10 and Political Discussion in Schools
Public pressure mounts on the Superintendent of Public Schools, Todd Lindsey from concerned students, parents and faculty demanding answers via the press as to why censorship rules are imposed on Tularosa High School. The Superintendent banned any political discussion or debate, after a discussion during the presidential election cycle began in a classroom, around the Gaza strip situation, and ongoing war in Israel. The Superintendent banned all political discussions and is not allowing the expression of any political viewpoint or dialogue per faculty sources confirming student accusations.
Multiple faculty members past and present have leaked complaints to streaming KALHRadio.org personality Anthony Lucero for the streaming edition of AlamogordoTownNews.org to alert the public at large to his tyrant tendencies when it comes to directing staff and squelching free speech and discussion of local, state and national political issues.
A most recent decision, has now also banned CNN-10 from classroom curriculum use as a teaching tool due to his perception of bias. A student has reached out to AlamogordoTownNews.org streaming news with Anthony Lucero to express his concern and that of students, parents and faculty as related to free speech. In addition to the ban on CNN10 the Superintendent has also banned any political discussion from the class curriculum even in classes of civics, debate and history.

Anthony Lucero has reached out to Superintendent Todd Lindsey for comment but has received no call back. A student submitted an email to the Superintendent which prompted the following response...
"I like the idea of news in the classroom. But it needs to be news that is not one sides and gives students the chance to use their critical thinking skills. And it needs to be news that dies not offend religion, race, etc. CNN does not produce that."
CNN 10 is a daily news show for students over 13 and other viewers who want to learn about current events and global issues in 10 minutes or less. In addition to world news, episodes include human-interest stories and an occasional 10-second trivia question. The news is delivered in a high-energy style that'll appeal to teens.
The CNN 10-minute broadcasts make an effort to stick to facts and avoid commentary. Though educators need to create their own lessons and supplemental materials, it's a worthwhile addition to media literacy education and is a tool used.
One local educator who spoke asking her name not be used for fear of retaliation by administrators and certain parents said: "Those who say CNN10 is a biased source are sorely misguided. I have students who identify as very conservative who come in daily asking if we are going to watch it. Yes, CNN as an organization is a left-leaning entity but the student focused broadcast does a great job of staying down the middle and just providing the facts. Students stay engaged due to the variety of segments abd the fast paced format thus they have and the number of topics covered. I highly recommend for any classroom. Students need to be more aware of what is going on in the world. This helps them become knowledgeable citizens and leads to great student debate and discussion in a safe setting allowing students to engage with peers in a positive manner they may not be allowed to experience at home. The idea of no political discussion and dialogue amongst students is censorship and teaches a lesson of tyranny of which our founding fathers left the monarchy to avoid."
