The NM Charter Schools Division Analysis Recommends Against Charter Application as Submitted

The New Mexico Charter Schools Division Analysis and Recommended Against the Sacramento School of Engineering and Sciences New School Application for Alamogordo.

The analysis has been published to public record concerning the application that was filed with the state of New Mexico by the group seeking to established a STEM Charter School for Alamogordo and the recommendation is NO.

The application as submitted had some glaring problems and concerns and a very harsh accusation of plagiarism in the denial recommendation by the state leadership.

A harsh indictment in how the application was filed with an accusation or copy and paste from another filed application and plagiarism...

The recommendation is not the final say on the outcome of the Charter School proposal. The New Mexico state board of education will make the final decision in an upcoming meeting scheduled toward the end of the month.

Historically the state board of education has supported the recommendations offered by staff.

The team attempting to bring the charter school to Alamogordo faught a gallant effort, yet issues of transparency, inclusivity and fiscal accountability were issues that were most often cited as concerns via social media commentary and by proponents to the proposal.

Several of the individuals opposed to this charter initiative were not opposed to charter schools but were opposed to the charter as proposed. Many opponents felt a charter that was modeled after the fomer "aces" school programs and tackled "at risk youth" would better serve the community.

Many proponents were not convinced that the application as submitted was significantly different than already exisiting programs or programs planned within Alamogordo High School.

The lack of outreach, input and dialog from the beginning of the process by the founding board with the Native American, Hispanic, Black and LBGTQIA communities was a glaring failure that raised serious community concerns that LULAC Chapter 8105 brought to the forefront of dialogue.

The final decision will be made later this month by the New Mexico State Board of Education.  AlamogordoTownNews.org and KALHRadio.org will be onsite to report the final outcome.

Goodness gracious, that document says a mere 16% of students at AHS are proficient with math. I don't know if I should laugh or cry. That's so ridiculously bad.
