The vision of the Red Brick Building Restoration Foundation, Inc. is to preserve our cultural heritage and shape the future
of the Tularosa community by restoring the Red Brick School for historical and educational use.
Construction on the Red Brick School began in 1916 and students began attending Fall, 1917. The school building was designed by the famous El Paso, Texas architect Henry Charles Trost and built by Robert Eugene McKee. The school sits at the terminus of Granado Street, historically, the main and commercial street of Tularosa, New Mexico.
A historic preservation movement is ongoing and the organization is hosting their next meeting on June 24th, at 5:30 pm. Those concerned with historic preservation are welcome to attend. Meeting notes and updates from their last board meeting include:

Welcome and call to order at 5:34 pm
Secretary report:
• Reviewed minutes, Linda moved, Sharon seconded, all approved.
Treasurer report:
• Check 1661 for paint at Home Depot; Hardison $75.00, J&K for yard work; Bank balance $8976.53 plus Edward Jones $28,294.42
Progress report:
• Linda reported that most of the work has been done on the back side. Some discussion about weather. Linda also reported that Custom Cabinets has not started on doors.
-Also reported that QR code is ready for making donations. Tested QR code.
-Linda reported that the sign is ready but she needs to pick it up Tuesday at Print Plus.
-Linda offered to send the QR code to anyone who wants to add it to their business card.
-Some discussion (again) about using a Google number instead of a personal number
-Sharon will provide a pie to Linda’s future son-in-law to encourage him to get the Google number
-Sharon will go to town to ask about quick claim deed for RBB.-
Tanja reported on Summer Reading Program
-Working with Linda at the library to execute the idea of having some community engagement just to get the families thinking about the Red Brick Building.
Old Business:
- Met with Bob Money: a little down, but hoping it wlll come back.• Duck Race participationo Linda asked a few questions and it was agreed to have a booth
-Othero Matthew reported that he would be pursuing the information needed for the by-laws compared to the legal requirements. Will compare to what we have now and provide a comparison.
New business
• Possible source of revenue – Sacramento Mountains Foundation, Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center’s foundation, might be an option.
Stephanie reported that she reported at a meeting today, that she chatted with Trustees Sainz and Garwood and go their support in advance.
Much discussion about what we want and how to be prepared for requesting support.
Tanja emphasized how important it is to articulate each piece that is needed so it can go into a list.
ACTION: Linda to provide the details of what is needed technically.o Tanja emphasized how important it is to be able to articulate what each of us, or anyone, wants for the building to be able to provide.
ACTION: Tanja to organize a site visit for Las Cruces as an example of how the building could be used.o Much discussion about what to do with the building and the things in it and the stories around it.o More discussion about tracking volunteer hours
ACTION: Sharon to find out if the meetings count as volunteer/in-kind hours. o Tanja pointed out the importance of documenting the actual inventory of what the building ‘owns’ or has in its possession.
ACTION: Linda to provide Phil Esser’s stuff and the rest of the printed materials and arrange a tour of the building and the things that are associated with the building.
Tanja asked about whether insurance covered the contents at Linda’s house and more discussion occurred about where to store materials safely for both the short term and long term.
ACTION: Tanja to arrange with Linda to ascertain the inventory of materials that belong to the RBBRF.
Procedure for contact or so
Provide written documentation for everything that a contractor will provide.
Expenditures for purchase
Stephanie pointed out that it is important to put items out for bid to ensure that contractors have equal access to the work.
