I can't remember what I was supposed to forget. Introspection by Johnnie Walker

As we age, it seems like our bodies and minds start playing a cruel game of "Gotcha!" Our minds believe we can still do all the things we once did, while our bodies are screaming, "Nope, not happening!"

I recently experienced this phenomenon when I made a Christmas list for family and friends, so that I could remember what not to remember so that I wouldn’t slip up and tell them what there gift was. But now I realize I have forgotten what I was supposed to forget. I'm pretty sure I wrote it down so I wouldn't remember, but now I can't recall what it was I wasn't supposed to recall. It's like trying to play a game of memory with a deck of cards that keep getting shuffled in your brain.

But as frustrating as it can be, there's a certain humor in the situation. I mean, who hasn't had a similar experience? Like when you walk into a room and forget why you're there, or when you go to the store for one thing and come back with everything but that one thing. It's like our memories are playing a game of hide-and-seek, and they're winning every time.

But amidst the forgetfulness and the occasional frustration, there's a sense of liberation too. As I age, I find myself letting go of the need to prove something to myself or anyone else. I'm learning to rest, relax, and just enjoy the journey. Because in the end, who really cares if I can't remember what I was supposed to forget? The important thing is the joy and love we spread to others, especially during this Christmas season.

And let's not forget the true reason for the season. It's not about the gifts or the decorations or the perfect holiday meal. It's about celebrating the birth of Jesus and the love and hope he represents. So whether our minds are playing tricks on us or not, let's remember to embrace the true spirit of Christmas and spread joy to those around us. And if you see me forgetting something, just chalk it up to old age and give me a good laugh. It's all part of the journey, after all! Be blessed.
