AlamogordoTownNews.com caught up with radio personality Anthony Lucero of Kalhradio.org Krazy Radio 95.1 for an interview and an update on changes happening at the station since the changing of the guard to leadership by 2nd Life Media. We found News & Program Director Anthony Lucero catching huge fish in undisclosed waters.
After an alleged 40 minute battle, Lucero was able to land the monster pictured above then returned him to fight another day.
When Alamogordo Town News asked Lucero for a comment, all he could say with his stunningly positive response was "oh, shut up."
We feel it must have been the exhaustion that caused him to be so untalkative.
When we mention the name, Anthony Lucero, in public we quickly realize, he is a character that is either loved or hated in the Alamogordo community. There are no fence straddles, when it comes to opinions concerning Anthony and his impact on Alamogordo community radio.
Anthony has been a fixture in the Alamogordo radio market since 2006. He assisted with the launch of KALH early on and has been a key member of the staff from the start though the transition In leadership that happened in January 2023.
During an earlier time when he was a bit more talkative and inspired to engage with other humans, we asked him how he got started in radio? His response was: “I was spawned in Roswell. My father "recruited" me to work for the radio station he managed when I was just 14 years old. I learned how to reload a cart, how to splice tape, and how to properly cue a 45...none of which is useful today. In my over 30 years in broadcasting, I have fallen deeper in love with the business...and a crazy business it is. From directing station programming to being a national news anchor, to award-winning broadcasts, I have done a lot...but I feel more at home now with KALH.”
AlamogordoTownNews.com in that prior engagement asked him to share with us an experience he will always remember as a broadcaster?
Anthony Lucero Response: “In the mid-90s I was working for a station that helped sponsor a circus...I found myself backstage drinking with a clown, trapeze artist, and other talents...liquid courage was flowing when the ringmaster suggested that I stand inside the globe of doom and quickly trained me on how to do it to avoid injury...THAT ALONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH FOR ME TO SAY NO...anyway I was then standing in a metal sphere with two motorcycles driving around my body from all directions.
This is one of the reasons I got off the sauce over 10 years ago!”
KALHradio.org Krazy 95.1 is going through a significant change under efforts of Mr. Lucero and the new board of directors. The news was rebranded and is a collaboration with AlamogordoTownNews.com, the station format is changing to “the soundtrack of your life” with a new library of over 3,000 songs added to the portfolio. And a new broadcast studio is soon to launch at 1209 New York Avenue in Alamogordo’s downtown history and cultural arts district.
Given the level of behind the scenes work Mr. Lucero has done over the last 60 days; it’s no wonder he can be a bit “testy”when engaging with the human race. After witnessing his “great monster catch” at the “undisclosed lake” it becomes apparent his engagement with fish was “well received” and equivalent to his engagement with humanity.
