Alamogordo Friday Night March 3, 2023 - Otero Arts Student Art Exhibition opening and New York Avenue Businesses open late for Downtown Nights.

Alamogordo’s Cultural Arts, History and Business District is alive and well Friday March 3rd; with businesses of New York Avenue open till 8 pm, food trucks and more plus, Otero Arts, at 1118 Indiana Avenue, is hosting a reception for its March Artist Showcase. The showcase for March is local Student Artists.

The Otero Arts fun begins Friday night. The “mission of Otero Arts Inc is to enrich the lives of the people of our community through arts and culture to foster a spirit of mutual support and cooperation. We want to help ensure the young people of this community also have a means to express and share their creative passion.”

To that end, the month of March is dedicated to a Student Art Exhibit featuring talent from K - 12, and with representation from Desert Star Elementary, High Rolls Mountain Park, Holloman Elementary, Laas Luz Elementary, North Elementary, St. Francis Cabrini Elementary, Sierra Elementary and Alamogordo High School, Otero Arts will display 320 pieces of student art. These kids are SO creative!!

The theme for the show was based on the word 'Spring', to be interpreted in any way the students were inspired. (Some of the work may seem like a 'leap' to the theme, but time constraints for some classes meant allowing for a broader interpretation. For those of you who like to look for segues, you'll have a field day!) This is the first year for this show and the student response, as well as the assistance from teachers was nothing short of heroic! The treat of are very excited to see how this event evolves in future years!

The Opening Reception is Friday March 3rd, from 4 - 6 pm. There will be snacks from a local culinary arts group and a middle school choir will perform plus the art on display from students in Otero county! There snacks are provided by the culinary arts program at mountain view Middle School, as well as a choral presentation at 5:45. Come on out and support our kids in their creative endeavors. There is some wonderful work to be seen!

Then on Saturday Otero Arts is thrilled to welcome two accomplished authors of children's and middle-grade books for a morning of fun and learning for kids, teens and adults.
