Alamogordo Police Department Community Connections:

When you think of law enforcement, the idea that often comes to mind is the police officers. That’s not surprising, because of their role in the criminal justice system is to act as the face of the system and to investigate crimes.

But, while police officers play a critical role in the criminal justice system for this role in law enforcement, that is not the only role they play in the Alamogordo community. Most officers also take part in community events and volunteer their time to help families in need. One of the methods used by police to assist with community relations and to help out in the community is through Shop with a Cop program. Alamogordo hosted its first shop with a cop program this year. A huge thank you goes out to Stephanie at Thrive in Southern New Mexico as Otero County hosted its inaugural #ShopWithACop in partnership with the Alamogordo Police Department this past weekend.

What is the Shop with a Cop Program?

Shop with a Cop is an event that focuses on underprivileged children and families within our local community. Police officers spend time with the children and shop with them in a local store this year at Walmart Alamogordo. During the event, the children are given a gift certificate to purchase any items they want in the store. The police officer acts as a chaperone and companion to the children throughout the experience as they shop for items. A few highlights of this weekends' event are below...
