Big Bang STEM Expo Comes to Alamogordo June 29, 2024
Family friendly, minds-on, hands-on STEM activities take center stage at the third annual BIG BANG STEM EXPO on Saturday, June 29, at the Tays Special Event Center from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event is sponsored by the International Space Hall of Fame Foundation (ISHFF), New Mexico Museum of Space History, and New Mexico State University Alamogordo.
In addition, the ISHFF hopes to make an exciting announcement about the partnership between Team Holloman and the Foundation to create a STARBASE program at Holloman.
“The BIG BANG STEM EXPO will bring together the best STEM programs in southern New Mexico for a day of free family friendly activities focusing on minds-on, hands-on programs that engage and encourage students to seek careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” said ISHFF President Johnny Powell. “There’s an ongoing downward trend nationwide in STEM related career fields and its important that we foster interest in these programs.
The BIG BANG STEM EXPO will let kids see that their dreams can come true, and be fun at the same time!”Exhibitors from New Mexico State University Alamogordo, the Museum of Space History, the Academy of Model Aeronautics District VIII, Sunspot, and many others will be on hand.
Each organization will offer a variety of free minds-on, hands-on STEM activities. Several flight simulators will be available to experience along with robotics demonstrations and more.
Model rocket building and launching will be free, but registration is limited to 100 students. Rocket building will be scheduled throughout the day and builders must be registered in advance.
