Laura Ann Peek passed away at the hospital in El Paso, TX on July 25, 2026. She was born on September 26, 1964, to Thomas L. and Lynne E. Peek in Key West, Florida. She was the oldest daughter of 4 children.
Being a Navy family for 20 years, Laura traveled a lot with us. First home for her was Key West and then on to San Diego, CA for a number of years. After that, on to North Gower, Ontario, Canada for our last duty station. During these travels, we went through lots of places, Washington DC, Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
After retiring from military life, we settled for a while on 16 Springs Rd.in NM. Like in Canada, we raised sheep, 2 calves and a garden, which she helped with. We had lots of dogs as pets. We lived in Cloudcroft, NM a short while where Laura finished school at Cloudcroft High School. From there we moved down the mountain to Alamogordo, NM.
Laura was with us till the age of 36. She then moved to a small group home in Las Cruces, NM for 24-hour care. She enjoyed getting out into the community and travel with caregivers to Disneyland, CA, Albuquerque Zoo and museums, and Ruidoso, NM.
Her father Thomas, passed away in 2018. Laura is survived by her sisters, Susan Schexnayder of Arvada, CO and Michelle Collins and husband Dusty of Alamogordo; her brother, Steven Peek of Alamogordo; nephew, Dustin Schexnayder of Wheat Ridge, CO; niece, Casen Collins Fisher and husband Austin of Fitchburg, WI.
Even with Laura's disabilities, she had a full life and many happy memories.
Burial will be held at Monte Vista Cemetery at a later date.
