Pilar Valenzuela Hernandez passed away at home on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born in Alpine, Texas on July 9, 1938, and was happily married to his wife, Gloria Arcelia “Chela” Rodriguez, for 30 years.
In 1958, Pilar enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably for two years. He then went on to begin a lifelong career working as a glazer. During his retirement years, he enjoyed doing the many "honey do's" at home as well as going to the Inn of the Mountain God's casino to try his luck. He also worked a few years with the Alamogordo Public Schools.
Pilar is survived by his children, Sandra Preciado, Jerry Hernandez, Mona Hall (Ron), Pilar Jr. (Shawn), Aldo Molinar (Annette); grandchildren, Victoria, Junebug, Jerry Jr., Joey, Eric, Presley, Alyssa, Natalia, Javier; brother, Ruben Hernandez (Mary); sisters, Cora Hernandez Zarnstorff (Ken), Veronica “Ronnie” Hernandez; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pilar and Anita Hernandez; his loving wife, Arcelia “Chela” Hernandez; son, Luis Javier Molinar.
Services for Pilar Hernandez will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 705 Delaware Avenue, Alamogordo, NM. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am with Mass celebrated at 10:30 am.
Graveside will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
A reception will be held at the home of Pilar following the services.
