In Memory of Gertrude Margaret (Iler) Iwansk

Gertrude Margaret (Iler) Iwanski, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, beloved mother to 4 children, Kathleen, Jerome, Christopher, (wife Barbara), and Vincent, who preceded her in death at the age of 19, passed away suddenly in Alamogordo on March 5, 2026, leaving a void her family cannot fill.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1941 to George and Ruth Iler and lost her mother to breast cancer at the young age of 12. Gertrude attended Chicago Vocational School before marrying the love of her life, Jerome Iwanski, and going on to become the loving and devoted mother of 4 children. After her children were grown, she went on to enjoy working at 1-800-Flowers.com and then she also bowled on her team, the Hummingbirds for many, many years, as well as serving as the President and then the Secretary-Treasurer for her bowling league, which she served in the latter capacity until her death. She was also a long-time member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where she volunteered with the choir and Eucharistic Adoration, and belonged to a rosary group.

Gertrude was a devoted and loving mother to Kathleen, Jerome, Christopher (Barbara), and Vincent (Sharyl); grandmother to Lauren, Tim, Troy, Spencer, Jasmine, Jasper, and Amanda, her pride and joy. The walls of her house were filled with pictures of all her kids, grandkids and great grandkids, too many to count. Gertrude is survived by many family members and friends who will never forget the love, kindness and humor she brought to their lives.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; her son, Vincent; her parents, George and Ruth Iler.

Funeral Services for Gertrude Iwanski will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Alamogordo. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am with Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00 am. A reception will follow services.
