Dear Honorable Members of the Alamogordo City Commission,
I am writing on behalf of 2nd Life Media, Alamogordo Town News, and KALH Radio to formally congratulate you on bringing the long-standing search for a permanent City Manager to a successful conclusion. By unanimously directing contract negotiations with Dr. Stephanie Hernandez as the nominee for this vital leadership role—pending final agreement—you have demonstrated a commitment to stability, competence, and responsiveness to the will of the community.
This extended selection process, marked by significant press scrutiny and multiple rounds of interviews, finalists' withdrawals, and public interest, has been challenging for all involved. Yet, your decision reflects a genuine effort to listen to the passionate and engaged citizens of Alamogordo who advocated for leadership rooted in local knowledge, proven performance, and continuity. In an era where public trust can be tested by prolonged uncertainty, your actions affirm that transparency is a fundamental principle for an effective, citizen-engaged democracy. As Ari Melber aptly stated, "A basic tenet of a healthy democracy is open dialogue and transparency." Your willingness to navigate this scrutiny has set a positive example.
Our team at 2nd Life Media invested considerable effort—through research, phone calls, follow-ups across the country, and reporting—to keep the public informed and hold the process accountable. While such endeavors require extensive staff and intern hours, they are essential to fostering an informed citizenry. In the end, this rigorous engagement has made our community stronger: so many residents became informed, participated actively, and now own the outcome with equal vigor to you as elected officials. When community members share in this sense of ownership, we become a more resilient, unified, and better Alamogordo. As Louis Brandeis observed, "The most important political office is that of private citizen," underscoring how engaged citizens like those here have contributed meaningfully to this positive result.
Our team now looks forward to shifting focus toward reporting on the roadmap ahead under Dr. Hernandez's leadership. We anticipate covering the actual execution of more projects, community enhancements, collaborative opportunities, and ways to grow from our diversity into a stronger, more caring community for all residents.
Thank you again for your service, your attentiveness to public input, and your dedication to Alamogordo's future. We stand ready to continue our role in transparent, community-focused journalism.
Sincerely,
Chris Edwards
