In Memory of Joyce Ann (Huffaker) Witt

Joyce Ann (Huffaker) Witt, 80, of Alamogordo, New Mexico passed from this life on Monday, February 23, 2026. She was born Joyce Ann Huffaker on January 27, 1946, in Paris, Illinois, the youngest daughter of Carl Victor Huffaker and Lena Alice (Clouse) Huffaker.

Joyce's mother, Lena, died un unexpectedly when Joyce was 16 and she finished high school while living with her mother's cousin, Helen and Leonard Conner. She graduated from Scottland High School in Scottland, Illinois in 1964 and continued her education at Lakeview Memorial School of Nursing. She spent several years of her nursing career at St. Elizabeth and Lakeview Hospitals (Illinois) in the operating room where she met and made many lifelong friends.

Joyce was previously married to Charles 'Chuck" Ashby (deceased) and had two sons, Sean and Greg Ashby.

Later, Joyce moved to Tacoma, WA where she continued her career as an RN. While living in Tacoma, she would meet and marry Frederick Witt in 1993. Not only did she marry a wonderful man, but she expanded her family with two stepchildren, Shirley Ann Helbling and Sean Newcombe as well as her stepdaughter's husband, Arthur, and their two sons, Philip and Keneth.

Joyce and Fred spent many happy years together in Washington and later in Alamogordo, NM.

When Joyce retired, she became a part of the Women's Auxiliary at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo, where she took up taking baby photos for several years.

Joyce and Fred later bought an RV and enjoyed traveling to places that they had never been, always making time to see their family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Fred; her son, Greg (Katie) Ashby; her three grandchildren, Keenan, Sophia, and Brody; her stepson, Sean Newcombe; step son-in-law, Arthur Helbling; step grandsons, Philip and Keneth Helbling.

She is preceded in death by her son, Sean Michael Ashby; her sister, Barbara (Huffaker) Peelman; her stepdaughter, Shirley Ann Hebling.

Joyce will be remembered for her kindness, her love for her friends and family, and the way she never missed a special occasion to send a homemade card.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Alamogordo Funeral Home, 1590 E First Street in Alamogordo.

Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery, 1590 E First St. in Alamogordo.
