Sofia Tarango Estrada was born on September 18, 1937, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Madelina Tarango and Lorenzo Estrada and passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026. Surrounded by love, she lived a life rooted in strength, devotion, and deep love for her family.
Born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, Sofia carried with her the rich traditions, warmth, and resilience of her homeland throughout her life. She was one of seven siblings and is lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters: Manuela, Keta, Rosa, Rogelio, Albert, and Valentine.
Sofia was a woman of unwavering dedication, always placing her family at the center of her world. Her home was a place of comfort and belonging, where everyone was welcomed with kindness, nourishment, and care. She later married Robert Raymond Schneider and in 1974 moved to California to Edwards Air Force Base, where she continued to build a life grounded in love and family.
She was a devoted mother to Gloria Baca, Steve Baca, George Baca, and Stephanie Baca. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Stevie Baca, Caleb Baca, Lawrence Syling, and Michelle Syling , each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Sofia’s life was a testament to perseverance, faith, and unconditional love. Her wisdom was shared not only in words, but through her actions, in the meals she prepared, the traditions she preserved, and the steady, comforting presence she provided. She found joy in watching her favorite soap operas, listening to music, and cheering passionately for her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Above all, Sofia will be remembered for her strength, her warm heart, and the way she made everyone feel loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the traditions she honored, and the countless lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
The Rosary for Sofia Tarango Estrada will be recited at 10:15 am, Monday, February 23, 2026, at St. Jude Parish Catholic Church with Mass celebrated at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow at St. Jude Parish Columbarium.
