Guest Opinion Sharon McDonald for Alamogordo Mayor by Arthur Alterson

Sharon McDonald is the best person to serve as Alamogordo’s mayor among the five contenders. Sharon McDonald has my vote. She has my wife’s vote also, but my wife will have to write her own endorsement.

We bought a house in Alamogordo in the Spring of 2006. We had come here because I had gotten a job with the City in community development. Alamogordo hardly was perfect then, but it did have a lot going for itself and its citizens. City staff and elected officials had an air of pride in the present and optimism about the future.

Such is not the case today. City water service, then a bargain, is now top dollar while the quality corrodes our homes and appliances. Investment in our water future, then the subject of active planning and the securing of funds and authorizations, including water rights, today is the moribund victim of a lack of continuity and follow-up. Our infrastructure of water pipes, sewers, and streets has been in a state of collapse.

Sharon McDonald is a nice blend of experience, ideals, and community activity. She is a long-time City Commissioner whohas scored tangible successes for her neighborhood and the City in this role. As a community activist she has accomplishmentsindependent of City Hall. She is intelligent, personable and caring. She aims for the best for the City and its residents on a block by block and individual basis and does not diverge from this path to conform with party political dogma.

The election has begun on October 7. Please, help yourself and help Alamogordo by voting for Sharon McDonald.
