New Mexico’s electric grid has hit all-time highs as triple-digit temperatures strain the system, with PNM setting an all-time electricity demand record on August 3, 2026. The result? Some customers are reporting bills 15-20% higher than normal.
On top of the extreme heat, PNM implemented a rate increase in April 2026 adding roughly $6.23 to average residential bills, and summer months (June, July, August) see higher tiered rates when demand and electricity costs are at their highest.
If you’re struggling to pay right now — you’re not alone. And help is available starting Friday!
