Alamogordo NM - Investigation Launches After Two Minors Report Exposure Near Alamogordo’s Chaparral Middle School

A 67-year-old Alamogordo resident was arrested Tuesday following a months-long investigation into reports of indecent exposure near a local middle school, authorities said.

Darrell W. Johnson was taken into custody on August 5, 2026, after Alamogordo Police Department officers and New Mexico State Police STIU agents executed an arrest warrant at his residence on the 1300 block of College Avenue, according to a police news release.

The investigation began in April when two minor students reported to a School Resource Officer at Chaparral Middle School that they had witnessed a male subject exposing himself from the front door of a residence while walking to school. The Alamogordo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division assumed the investigation immediately following the report.

Over the following days, officers and detectives conducted surveillance of the residence and observed behavior from a male subject that matched the description provided by the victims. This evidence led investigators to seek an arrest warrant for Johnson.

Johnson was apprehended without incident and subsequently booked into the Otero County Detention Center. He is being held pending his appearance in Magistrate Court.

Charges

Johnson has been charged with:

• Two counts of Aggravated Indecent Exposure of a Minor (4th Degree Felonies)

Investigation Ongoing

Police say the investigation is continuing and asked anyone with information about the case to contact the Alamogordo Police Department Detective Division or Crime Stoppers of Otero County.
