Alamogordo, N.M. — 2nd Life Media AlamogordoTownNews.org and KALH Radio (KALHRadio.org) will host the next installment of their “Voices of Alamogordo” community forum series this Tuesday, July 7, at 6 p.m. at Otero Arts (Otero Artspace), 1118 Indiana Avenue.

Continuing the salon-style format that has become a staple of the series, this month’s session will focus on community volunteerism and preparations for Alamogordo’s annual citywide cleanup, set for Saturday, July 18. Alamogordo Mayor Sharon McDonald is expected to take part in the discussion,  accompanied by individuals in her core committee that are cleanup organizers and volunteer coordinators.

A Conversation on Giving Back

The forum will look at the role volunteers play in keeping Alamogordo neighborhoods clean and connected, and how residents can get involved — whether by signing up to volunteer, requesting assistance with their own property, or simply showing up to help a neighbor. As in past sessions, the evening is designed as an open, moderated dialogue rather than a formal presentation, giving attendees a chance to ask questions directly of organizers and city representatives.

The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required, though seating at Otero Arts is limited and early arrival is encouraged. The forum will also be livestreamed for residents who can’t attend in person, with a link available through KALHRadio.org.

Citywide Cleanup Set for July 18

The forum comes just ahead of Alamogordo’s citywide “Dump Your Junk” cleanup on July 18, an annual tradition closely associated with Mayor McDonald’s community outreach efforts. Volunteers are asked to report to the Dudley Community Center at 7 a.m. to receive their neighborhood assignments. Residents who need help clearing yard debris, trash, or bulky items — including elderly or disabled homeowners — are encouraged to contact organizers as soon as possible to complete the required sign-up and waiver forms.

Free dumpsters are expected to be placed throughout the city’s districts for residents to drop off unwanted items. As in previous years, certain materials are typically excluded from collection, such as household appliances, electronics, batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, and large scrap metal; residents are encouraged to confirm specifics with organizers ahead of the event.

About the Series

“Voices of Alamogordo” is produced jointly by Alamogordo Town News and KALH Radio as a recurring public service, bringing residents together with city leaders and local organizers for informal, civil dialogue on issues shaping the community. Past sessions have covered topics ranging from the city budget process to parks and library services to candidate forums for local office.
