ALAMOGORDO — Kathy Denton of Kitty City opened this week’s “Cat Chat” segment with a heartfelt Mother’s Day message honoring mothers across the Tularosa Basin and beyond — including the countless women who open their hearts and homes to pets in need.
Denton reminded listeners that cats offer a special kind of companionship, comfort, and sense of responsibility while serving as a low-maintenance option for busy families and individuals. “Sharing your life with a cat brings joy, laughter, and a real sense of family,” she said, “and at the same time you’re giving an animal in need a second chance.”
The segment spotlighted several wonderful cats currently available for adoption at Kitty City:
• Baby, a sweet and gentle older female rescued after being found living outdoors. She lost her previous owner and is now looking for a quiet, loving, indoor-only home.
• Katniss, a five-year-old Russian Blue known for her affectionate and friendly personality with other cats. She would do best in a dog-free household.
• Jet, an energetic eight-month-old tuxedo kitten rescued from an outdoor colony. This playful boy is affectionate and ready to zoom around a safe indoor environment.
Kitty City is located at 56 Stanley Ranch Road and is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter’s website to view all currently available cats and kittens.
This Saturday there will be no regular adoption event at White Sands Mall, but Kitty City will have a table at the mall’s Mother’s Day craft fair featuring special gift items. All proceeds benefit the shelter’s life-saving work.
Mark your calendars for upcoming adoption events at White Sands Mall:
Saturday, May 16 and Saturday, May 23 — both from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you’re looking for a new furry family member this Mother’s Day season, stop by Kitty City or catch one of the mall events. As always, these animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before going to their forever homes.
This is Anthony Lucero reminding you — whether you’re a mom, a pet parent, or both — the love you give comes back tenfold.
Adopt. Don’t shop.

This is awesome! There are so many instances of confusion regarding this.
