The Alamogordo community is preparing to honor a true local icon as Coach Bob Sepulveda celebrates his 90th birthday on Saturday, February 21, 2026. A special evening of tribute and fellowship will take place at the Dudley School Community Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8 p.m., bringing together former athletes, friends, family, and admirers to toast a legacy that has inspired generations.

The celebration will feature light appetizers, heartfelt tributes, shared stories from those whose lives he shaped, photo displays capturing decades of triumphs on the track and field, and video highlights of his championship eras. Attendees will have the chance to reflect on Coach Sepulveda’s remarkable journey—from his 30-year tenure leading Alamogordo High School athletics to his continued athletic prowess in later years.
Known as the winningest track and field coach in Alamogordo Tiger history, Coach Sepulveda guided his teams to 19 district championships, 5 state championships, one runner-up state finish, and five third-place finishes. His squads in the 1990s achieved the longest consecutive state track and field winning streak of any New Mexico coach during that decade. He was honored as New Mexico Coach of the Year for boys’ track in 1982, 1991, and 1996, and received multiple national and regional accolades from the National High School Athletic Coaches Association.
In 1988, he and his wife Marilyn were inducted into the Alamogordo Tiger Hall of Fame. Today, his name graces the Bob Sepulveda Track & Field at Tiger Stadium, home to the annual Bob Sepulveda Invitational—a premier state-qualifying meet that keeps his spirit alive in local sports.
Even at advanced ages, Coach Sepulveda has stayed competitive, earning gold medals and other honors at the New Mexico Senior Olympics, including multiple medals in his 80s that qualified him for nationals. His example of lifelong dedication, discipline, and vitality continues to motivate the community, with many seeing him jogging down Scenic early mornings as he heads to age 90.

This gathering is more than a birthday party—it’s a tribute to a coach who united people across divides, built champions, and embodied “Alamogordo Proud.”
