Alamogordo Tigers Fall in Heartbreaking Overtime Thriller to Las Cruces, 58-53, Regional Team Action

Alamogordo, New Mexico – January 30, 2026 – In a gripping district showdown at the Tiger Pit, the Alamogordo High School boys’ basketball team battled fiercely but ultimately came up short in overtime, falling to the Las Cruces Bulldawgs by a final score of 58-53.

The Tigers showed tremendous resilience throughout the contest, holding leads at multiple key junctures. Alamogordo edged ahead 14-12 after the first quarter, extended the advantage to 24-21 at halftime, and maintained a slim 40-35 lead heading into the fourth period. The fourth quarter saw intense back-and-forth action, with both teams refusing to yield, resulting in a 47-47 tie at the end of regulation and forcing overtime.

In the extra session, Las Cruces pulled away for the victory despite the Tigers’ valiant effort.

Leading the charge for Alamogordo was Jaedyn Hernandez, who poured in a game-high 18 points to pace the offense. Julian Favela added 14 points, while Aaron Herrera contributed 10 in a balanced scoring attack.

With the loss, the Tigers drop to 14-6 overall and 1-3 in district play. Alamogordo will look to bounce back quickly as they hit the road to face Gadsden on Tuesday.

In other boys’ basketball action across the region:

Cloudcroft dominated Lordsburg, winning 73-38. The Bears improve to 9-10 overall and 1-1 in district play. Cloudcroft travels to Capitan on Tuesday for their next contest.

Cobre topped Tularosa 78-65. For the Wildcats, Joe Chavez led with 17 points, Eluciano Gonzales added 16, Jacoby Apachito scored 10, Kameron Blazer had 9, and River Kasero contributed 7. Tularosa falls to 16-3 and will host Socorro on Saturday.

Mescalero Apache edged Capitan 70-68 in a close battle. Shywin Chaffins paced the Chiefs with 19 points, Avin Yellowcloud added 14, Landyn Hiles scored 11, and Jason Wilson had 8. The Chiefs improve to 6-12 overall and 1-0 in district, with a road trip to Lordsburg on Saturday next.

On the girls’ side:

 Lordsburg defeated Cloudcroft 68-38. Delanie Dallas led the Lady Bears with 13 points, Marisa Romero added 10, and Maitlyn Barnett scored 8. Cloudcroft drops to 6-11 and 1-1 in district, heading to Capitan on Tuesday.

Mescalero Apache cruised past Capitan 53-25. Bridgette Blake topped the Lady Chiefs with 13 points, Kaylyn Chino had 9, and Laurdys Sundayman and Elizabeth Rocha each scored 7. The Lady Chiefs improve to 6-14 and 1-0 in district, hosting Lordsburg on Saturday.
