The BBC reports yet another unprecedented move, the Trump administration has fired 5 high ranking military officers in a single day to include the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Admiral in charge of the Navy Vice Commander of the Air Force, as well as the judge advocates general for the Army, Navy and Air Force, critical positions that ensure enforcement of military justice. The same day 5400 Pentagon civil servants were also given a pink slip of being fired.

On the day a letter arrived to the Pentagon and the White House signed by Republican Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska and Democratic Reps. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, Jason Crow of Colorado, Mikie Sherill of New Jersey and Jared Golden of Maine, signers as members of the House Armed Services Committee asks for justification in military leadership firings and yet the White House responded with announcements of firing as the sun set on the day.

The bipartisan group of House lawmakers is petitioning Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for more transparency in any future decisions involving the dismissal of senior uniformed leaders, saying the process must avoid political undertones to preserve the sanctity of the military.

Meanwhile snubbing congressional oversight the administration announced the firings.

Donald Trump has purged top military figures in the Pentagon, including firing America's most senior commander.

He also pushed out five other admirals and generals in an unprecedented shake-up of US military leadership.

The Pentagon had been bracing for mass firings of civilian staff as well as a dramatic overhaul of its budget and a shift in military deployments.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General CQ Brown - America's highest-ranking general and only the second black general to serve as chairman - was fired with immediate effect.

The administration also fired the head of the US Navy, a position held by Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first woman to lead a military service, and the Air Force vice chief of staff, the Pentagon said.

He is also removing the judge advocates general for the Army, Navy and Air Force, critical positions that ensure enforcement of military justice according to Sky News.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a statement that Trump plans to nominate retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan Caine, who joined the venture capital firm Shield Capital in January, as the nation’s next chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

The policy institute Center for American Progress blasted the firings, calling them “a deliberate effort to target senior professional military officers” and replace them with Trump loyalists.

“Few public servants have more honor, integrity and courage than the military officials that Trump fired today,” Rudy de Leon, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.

Meanwhile, as another part of the pentagon purgethe Pentagon announced plans Friday to fire 5-8% of its civilian workforce, staring next week with layoffs of 5,400 probationary workers, a Department of Defense official said in a statement.
