Alamogordo's aging population and families deserve year around access to water based activities for heath, fitness and balance.
An initiative is on thre ballot to build a new Natatorium (indoor enclosed pool) for all public use.
The proposal is for an enclosed year around use pool near the existing facility. The city pool in use today is nearing the end of its life cycle and needs extensive maintenance and repairs to maintain it going forward.
The current pool was built in 1995 and is nearing the end of its lifespan and needs extensive repairs. Issues include cracked pool walls, corrosion, uneven water levels, and more
The city of Alamogordo is considering two proposed options for the new facility: a traditional brick-and-mortar building or a modern, energy-efficient Sprung structure. The new facility will also feature year-round indoor swimming, pool party spaces, and accessibility features.
Alamogordo has an opportunity to upgrade recreational opportunities for families and seniors with a year around option using an already existing funding mechanism so no increase in taxes to fund the project as proposed..
The proposed new natatorium is designed to benefit all community members, from toddlers to senior citizens. School swim teams, recreational swimmers, and those seeking water-based exercise will all enjoy the new facility, which will be available year-round regardless of weather conditions and ability.
To learn more reach out to your elected city commissioners and be sure to vote yes on the November ballot. Early voting and absentee voting has begun. The citizens of Alamogordo deserve year around recreational pool access for families and seniors. Vote yes to approve this project to move it forward.

I read the budget and there isn't $4 million in Economic Development, plus this project ISN'T economic development. Further, issuing bonds assumedly will be paid back by admissions and rentals, which is thin-thinking. So, again, taxpayers will pay. Say NO on this. Retractable cover on the existing pool WILL WORK.
Existing pool is in need of significant repairs and upgrades and is obsolete to modern ada and other standards. A retractable cover would cost significantly as well plus upgrades necessary the math does not work out.
We need to attract DOCTORS not a pool
Quality of life and community amenities is a factir in hiwcto bring in doctors and professionals to the community
Chris, listen to yourself. Getting doctors (other than those credentialed in Iraq, The Carribean or India) to Alamo is going to take A LOT more than a public natatorium. Entrepreneurs who INVEST in hospitality won't have anything to do with a City that's had six city managers in ten years and is being strangled by an incompetent council of low educated people that are PUSHING for a pool. Let's get serious.
Having served on the planning commission in California of a city that reinvented itself from prune orchards to the wine capital of North America I know what it takes to transform a city. A nanatorium in itself no but a collaborative effort at reimagining a city can transform a city and its a cog in the steps of transformation and quality of life. A city must have amenities to attract doctors and professionals. Agree 7 city msnagets in ten years is a failure in leadership as is no increase in fees and infrastructure funding for 10 years
I voted "No" today, because of your attitude.
It doesn't even dawn on you that someone like myself might have decades nore muni econ dev experience (than you) enabling me to laugh out loud at the incompetence here. F.Y.I. Prunes don't grow in orchards, they're dried plums. Jumping to uneducated defenses like yours is exactly why the admin here is so F-ed up, and why the last City Manager said ****** instead of drinkin' the Kool-Aid.
