The Alamogordo and Otero County Annual Martin Luther Kings Jr. March sponsored by the local chapter of the NAACP and area supporters will be happening Saturday January 13, 2024 at 1 pm. The event begins at the train depot in Alameda Park and the proceeds down to the Airborne Monument which is at the corner of 1oth Street and White Sands Blvd, Alamogordo. 

In an interview with Chris Rollerson with Anthony Lucero of AlamogordoTownNews.com and KRAZY KALH Radio more details emerge.

Per Chris Rollerson, "we'll start the march at uh by the train depot at 1:0.0 then we'll March down, we'll proceed down to the Airborne Monument which is on tent in White Sands.

Several folks will carrying the banner  and marching and the event will include Sila Beckham who's going to be singing "Lift Every Voice" The mayor will issue a proclamation, Mayor Pro-tem, Sharon McDonald she'll be doing the welcoming, then there will be a dance group performing. Students are going to speak of the six principles of non-violence which were six principles of Dr Kings. Another student is going to a discussion bout Dr. King's Walks and then Chris Rollerson will be reciting one of his speeches which is his truth is marching. Then the group will march back to the north end of the Alameda park and refreshments, hot dogs and Cake which is sponsored by the Masonic Lodge Number 11 and the Martin Luther Jr. Committee."

The public is encouraged to come out and join this event.
