John Lynn Sheffield
John Lynn Sheffield, who explored the canyons of New Mexico and Colorado, passed through the veil of this life and began his journey exploring the heavens above on August 18, 2026.
John’s tremendous heart and gentle spirit always welcomed everyone he met. He greeted people with a big handshake, a smile, and an instant sense of friendship. John was a very generous soul, always ready to accept any hike, race, adventure, or challenge offered by family or friends.
John was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to his parents, Leonard and Sarah Jane Sheffield, on February 21, 1956. Raised in the mountains of southern New Mexico, John thoroughly enjoyed hiking and cycling, with many favorite trails in and around Colorado Springs. Being in nature fed his soul.
John graduated from Alamogordo Senior High in 1974. He worked in his father’s furniture business where he developed an appreciation for small business and entrepreneurship. After graduating from Oral Roberts University, John went on to build a life in business, owning and operating a furniture store, a pipe and supply business, and a real estate business, as well as serving in management at the Glen Eyrie Castle Conference Center.
John’s greatest love was his family. He is survived by his lifelong love, Teri Lea Sheffield; his son Jason Sheffield (Tiffany); his daughter Kristin Sheffield (Morgan); and his daughter, Irena Sheffield. He was a grandfather to his four beloved grandchildren, Kadence, Jonas, Evelyn, and Soren. John also enjoyed the love and friendship of his brother, Larry Sheffield (Tara), his sister, Janet Evans (John), as well as his wonderful in-laws and nine nieces and three nephews.
John left behind a legacy of faith, sincere kindness and love for others, a commitment to studying biblical and historical subjects, and countless friendships. He will also be remembered for his humility, his encouragement to so many, and, especially, his bravery in fighting the many challenges he experienced throughout his life.
Colorado Springs was John’s home, where he built a life surrounded by family and friends. He also made regular visits to Alamogordo to manage the family real estate business. His love for history, reading, music, conversation, and storytelling was all part of his wonderful personality.
A private celebration of life will be held by John’s family, and in lieu of flowers, please plant a tree, be kind to a stranger, or stop to watch a sunset and think of John.
