Our precious Debbi Sue McLeod-McCurdy went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 15, 2026. She passed away suddenly, but peacefully, so for this our hearts are grateful.
Debbi was born to Jerry and Billie Marie McLeod in Snyder, Texas, on April 13, 1968. Debbi married the love of her life, Mike McCurdy, on September 18, 1998.
Debbi was a graduate of Abilene Cooper High School and McMurray University in Abilene. Initially, Debbi was a secondary education school teacher and then she became interested in law and decided to take a different course in her career. She went to law school and graduated from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 1998. Debbi practiced law for 28 years. She was the CFO of Texas Gulf Engineering and McCurdy Creek Ranches.
Debbi had a great love for animals. Her passion was rescuing and caring for animals in need. Debbi and Mike always lived in the country and this allowed Debbi to care for and save countless animals. The past 21 years they made their home in the Texas Hill Country. In more recent years they divided their time between their Fredericksburg ranch and their mountain retreat in Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
Debbi was a beautiful soul who never met a stranger. Many people have shared their stories of how welcome Debbi made them feel. She poured her heart into supporting people and her communities, and she helped lead efforts for many important projects and organizations, such as Fredericksburg Nimitz Rotary, Mount Nemo Wounded Warriors, the Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce, and most recently was in the midst of raising funds for Cloudcroft to have their first ever helipad. Debbi was the owner of Osha Trail Depot in Cloudcroft, where she helped support local and aspiring artists.
Debbi never missed a chance to share God’s grace in her life and was instrumental in the formation of the Fredericksburg Cowboy Church, where she was fondly known as the Matriarch.
Debbi is survived by her husband, Michael Morris McCurdy; sister, Patti Marie Cowsert and husband Tim; nieces, Courtney Marie Cowsert, Lindsey Ann Vollmer and husband JC; nephew, Collin McLeod Cowsert; great nieces and nephews, Vallie, Ridge, Tana, Tate, and Khloe; aunts, Barbara Sue Tucker, Jan Rivera and husband Ray, Judy McLeod, Wanda McLeod; great aunt, Patricia Ann Merchant; Mike’s daughters, Tasha Renee McCurdy and Ashley Rachelle Abuzlam. Debbi was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her little sister, Terri Lynn McLeod.
Debbi’s family and friends would love to see Debbi’s goal for a helipad for Cloudcroft achieved, so please make any memorial donations to Sparky’s Boot Fund, P.O. Box 351 Cloudcroft, NM 88317, and please notate that it is for the Debbi McCurdy Memorial Helipad and include your name and address so the family may acknowledge your thoughtfulness.
Celebrations of Life will be held in the coming weeks in both Fredericksburg and Cloudcroft. Debbi will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her mantra in life was, “God’s got this!” And no doubt, God’s got her. “Go God!”
