In Memory of Guy Warden - A Life Well Lived

A life well lived, a legacy well earned, that is Guy Warden. On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Guy went to be with the Lord. He passed away peacefully with the love of his family by his side.

Guy Warden was born on November 7, 1937, in Magdalena, NM to Walter and Maudie McMillian. During his early years, he moved with his mother to Carrizozo and later relocated to El Paso, TX where he completed grade school and junior high school. In approximately 1951, Guy returned to Carrizozo to live with his grandmother, whom he called “Big Momma,” and remained there until graduating from high school.

Following graduation, Guy and some friends moved to California to work in the oil fields. Shortly thereafter, he returned to New Mexico and began working at Mountain Bell Telephone Co. Guy met the love of his life, Patsy Black, and they married on June 15, 1957, and settled in Alamogordo. Their first child, Jimmy, was born in Carrizozo. Four years later, their daughter Patti was born in Alamogordo, followed by their youngest daughter, Judie, in 1965. The family eventually established their home in Tularosa, where they lived and raised their children.

Guy’s career included many years with Marr Training Stables, a position he greatly enjoyed due to his passion for working with horses. He continued his journey at the Tularosa Feed Store and concluded his career at J&L Landscaping and Nursery, retiring in 2020.

In 1967, Guy joined the fair board and served as chairman of the rodeo for 40 plus years. In 2006, the fair board honored him by naming the arena “Guy Warden Arena”. Guy also served on the Tularosa School Board for several years and completed a term on the State School Board.

Guy was a loyal Tularosa Wildcats fan, and he rarely missed a game. He found great joy in cheering on local athletes and was a familiar face at all activities. He took pride in attending his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s events, and treasured the time spent hunting with his son, grandsons and close friends.

Guy was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy; great granddaughter, Allie; mother, Maudie; father, Walter; brother, Tommy; grandmother, “Big Mamma,”; grandfather, “Daddy Pick”; and Aunt Mary Picket.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy; daughters, Patti, (Randy) and Judie (Leo); nine grandchildren, Jami (Jarrod), Jessica (Kenny), Erika, Taylor (Angie), Adrian, Alyssa, Tyral (Bee), Cameron (Hillary), and Koby (Syanne); sister, Sissy;18 great grandchildren; a bonus family, Joel and Teresa Marr and their daughters, Shacie and Shaeden.

The family is indebted to his hospice team, Donna, Kim, Erva, Charles, and Martin.

A celebration of life for Guy will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Guy Warden Arena, Otero County Fair Grounds. The family will hold a burial service in White Oaks, NM at a later date.

A reception will follow the celebration.
