What our city commission is voting on
Good morning . This notice was emailed last week to the city commission you previously voted to exempt a developer from paying taxes on a $21,000,000 million dollar apartment development for 7 years or $ 1,131,0000 in taxes. This short changes funds for our schools and our children’s education and puts this tax burden on other tax payers. This vote was supposedly to alleviate a housing shortage. The vacancy rate for apartments and housing i Alamogordo at the time of your vote was 15.54 percent and more than double the national rate of 7 percent . A real estate website today shows there 772 vacant homes for sale. I have requested from commissioner Robinson and the city staff the number of active and inactive water meters as of aug31.2025 to no avail. Tuesday nite you will consider granting another $1,900,000 in tax payer money to more developers. Would you please send me the number of active and inactive water meters as of September 2025 . I request you call for a public vote Tuesday nite proposal. Now it is reported the local chamber of commerce is embroiled in a ethics issue with board members resigning . The chamber supported the first developer. Some decisions should be taken to a public vote. I requesting you enter my email into the official minutes when the issue of the $1,900,000 of development funds are voted on or discussed. Thanking you In advance Matt earl watley and concerned citizens of alamogordo
